Every time you’ve forwarded a joke, a funny picture, or a link to a friend, you’ve being participating in a form of social bookmarketing. Many sites have automated that process by allowing individuals to submit “bookmarks” (links) to a site associated with various keywords and assessments. These sites include organizations such as del.icio.us, yoono, digg and reddit. From a commercial point of view, social bookmark sites are, in effect, a different type of search engine – and a search engine that you want to be listed in.
The simplest way to be listed is to merely submit your content or site to the social bookmarking site with an appropriate list of keywords (Note: keywords in social bookmark sites may be pre-categorized or completely free form!).
Another way to use social bookmarking sites is to submit a wide variety of pre-tagged content or pagelinks on a more detailed basis. Submit each article in your blog individually or each section of your website, and carefully tag each one appropriately. For example, each product description page may be submitted separately.
With a concerted effort to be included in all the various social bookmarking sites, you’ll realize three outcomes:
(1) You’ll boost the level of highly targeted traffic to your site
(2) You’ll boost sales directly through references to call-to-action selling pages, and
(3) You’ll boost your search engine rankings through increased backlinks to your site.
All in all, ensuring that you’re submitted to the several sites is a great way to boost your internet marketing effectiveness!
